abstract = "The production of images, with radiometric and geometric quality
suitable for various applications in the area of remote sensing,
depends directly on the performance of the sensors on board
satellites. Among the various existing parameters, the
Signal/Noise Ratio in the satellite images is an important
indicator for the assessment of data quality and performance of
satellite sensors throughout its operational life. Methods for
analyzing the Signal/Noise Ratio established by the scientific
community have been described pointing their advantages and
disadvantages as well as the performance of each method based on
his theories. In this work we were estimated relations
Signal/Noise using the Local Variance Method using samples taken
from homogeneous areas of the following sensors: OLI Landsat-8
satellite and MUX / WFI / PAN CBERS-4 satellite. The results
obtained in the experiments responded to this proposed work, which
was to assess whether the results were within the sensor
specifications, and the Local Variance Method is effective, easy
to apply and with a certain reliability of its results.",
